As previously reported, Borrego Health made a request for Court assistance to recover over-market rent payments made to its landlords since 2016 for its Barstow and San Bernardino clinic facilities. The landlords recently terminated the leases for these two facilities. Borrego Health is now taking the following actions:
Borrego Health is closing its physical location and implementing a layoff located at Barstow Community Health Center, 750 E. Main Street, Barstow, CA. 92311, effective February 1, 2022, and assisting patients with the transfer of their care to another facility.
Borrego Health is closing its physical location and implementing a layoff located at D Street Medical Center, 590 N. D Street, San Bernardino, CA 92401, effective February 1, 2022, and assisting patients with the transfer of their care to another facility.
Affected patients will receive a letter from both Borrego Health and their enrolled health plan alerting them to a primary care physician change and may elect to continue services with Borrego Health at another clinical site, or transfer their care to another FQHC. Additional instructions and contact information will be included in that correspondence.
Borrego Health is also taking steps to add efficiencies to existing operations. Effective February 1, 2022. Borrego Health will be taking the following actions:
Outsourcing and implementing a layoff of its Billing Department located at 587 Palm Canyon Drive, Borrego Springs, CA 92004. Borrego Health has contracted with Greenway Health to process billing on behalf of the organization.
Closing and relocating the physical location of the Desert Oasis Women's Clinic. Employees at the newly relocated facility will retain their positions.
Borrego Health has provided employees in the locations and departments described above with 60-days’ notice as required under the WARN Act. There are 113 Borrego Health employees directly affected by the layoffs. All employees involved in the layoff will be laid off on February 1, 2022. Borrego Health anticipates that the planned layoffs will be permanent.
We sincerely value all of the contributions made by the impacted employees and providers, especially during the last two years of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Employees affected by Clinic closings will have the opportunity to apply for transfer for other internal positions within Borrego Health. Employees may seek job opportunities and patients may be able to utilize FQHC SAC Health System, a FQHC that will be opening a medical clinic in Barstow in January 2022 close to Borrego Health’s current facility located at 801 E. Mountain View Street, Barstow, CA 92311.
Borrego Health knows patients, staff, and community members will have questions during the transition. Borrego Health will continue to provide updates to affected individuals as the process moves forward.
