Director of Dental Program Integrity
Nithya Venugopal DMD, MBA grew up in Lexington, KY, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Kentucky. In 2005, she obtained her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University Of Kentucky College Of Dentistry. Dr. Venugopal spent time in private practice and also had experience working with Medicaid populations treating children in school-based settings where she gained knowledge on community and public health dentistry.
She transitioned to Southern California in 2011 and served as Assistant Professor and as a Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives and Faculty Development for the College of Dental Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona CA. She was instrumental in the development of the college’s strategic planning initiatives, strengthening the business/operational processes for growth opportunities and utilizing practice management strategies to improve clinical competencies.
Her clinical involvement also focused on the California State Dental Medicaid program helping to educate future dental graduates on regulatory requirements unique to Denti-Cal (Medicaid State Dental Program). This opportunity prompted her to conduct research on Medicaid and reimbursement in CA resulting in a Policy Brief on improving access to dental care for our most vulnerable populations.
In May 2016, Dr. Venugopal completed her Master of Business Administration (MBA) and was awarded certifications in Global Commerce and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from the University Of Kentucky Gatton College Of Business.
Dr. Venugopal’s role is to specifically implement the Program Integrity operations with the overarching goal of identifying and preventing potential Medicaid program integrity issues. Under her leadership, she will oversee her team in the review of Medicaid provider activities, audit claims, and educate providers and others on the Denti-Cal program as it pertains to FQHC’s in our state.
