Chief Compliance Officer

After receiving her Medical Degree from the Universidad Autonomá De Baja Califórnia, Mexico, Gabriela Alvarado worked as a physician at a private hospital in Tijuana. She worked closely with other doctors, specialists, nurses, radiology, and laboratory technicians providing patient care.

In 2004, Gabriela accepted a position at a large Federally Qualified Health Center in San Diego, California, where she worked for five years. As Quality Manage, she became involved in various quality improvement studies and projects and was instrumental in successfully implementing a patient population tracking system.

Gabriela joined Borrego Health in 2009 as Director of Quality where she helped develop several processes for improvement and analyzed performance and progress towards meeting our federal grant obligations in areas such as health disparities and health outcomes. In addition, Gabriela implemented Electronic Health Records (EHR) for Borrego Health in January of 2010 and initiated Borrego Health's participation with two large Health Information Exchanges in both San Diego and Riverside Counties.

In 2013, Gabriela became the Vice-President of Health Information Management and continued her work in both Quality and Information Management with oversight of the Medical Records Department. In September of 2016, Gabriela became the Chief Compliance Officer where she is now responsible for Borrego Health’s compliance with State and Federal Guidelines, laws and regulations. She has the oversight of both the Compliance and Risk Management Departments with an overall focus on organization-wide risk prevention, compliance, and safety.

BCHF is a Federally Qualified Health Center and a Federal Tort Claims Act Deemed organization. The Federal Government is the primary insurer.
