Our faculty team is currently staffed by Borrego Health physicians and physicians affiliated with Borrego Health. Each has shown a tremendous amount of dedication and commitment to serving our patients and community. 

Muhammed Arif, MD

Family Medicine Director

Dr. Muhammad Arif began his career in medicine after completing his general surgery residency in Pakistan and The Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. He started to practice as a general surgeon for the following 10 years in Pakistan. He went on to complete his Family Medicine residency from Aultman Health Foundation (North Eastern Ohio University, College of Medicine) in Canton, Ohio. Soon after, he completed a training course in ambulatory patient management from Harvard School of Public Health.


Prior to joining Borrego Health, Dr. Muhammad Arif was a member of the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine as clinical faculty. He is now the Program Director for Borrego Health’s Family Medicine Residency Program. As the Program Director, Dr. Arif’s role is to train the physicians of today for the challenges of tomorrow. 


Dr. Arif is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and also by the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, the American Medical Association, and the California Medical Association. 


He has numerous years of experience with a graduate medical education that includes being the Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at UCR, Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Medical Director at Community Health Systems in Moreno Valley and Site Medical Director for Golden Valley Health Centers, Merced, CA. He served as teaching faculty for Riverside University Health Systems, the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, the King Edward Medical University, the De’ Montmorency College of Dentistry and the Mayo Hospital School of Physical Therapy.


Dr. Arif’s passion is to be involved with research. He has won first place prize for his research project titled “Effect of White Coat on Patient's Perception”. Dr. Arif has also worked as a research fellow in the department of experimental pediatrics at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The research project he contributed to was a study on Rhabdomyosarcoma- A Cancer Survivor Study. The study aimed at identifying the incidence of a 2nd malignancy in cancer survivor patients. He has also actively participated in research studying the impact of the EHR implementation system in a primary care setting.
